This city has a history of over 4,000 years and has served as the capital for several empires, including Ancient Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Rome, Byzantium, and the Arab Empire. Damascus reached its peak during the Arab Empire, becoming a cultural and commercial center of the Middle East.
